What is OB/GYN?
OB/GYN is an abbreviation that has two meanings. OB/GYN stands for the field of medicine named Obstetrics and Gynecology and it also represents the specific women’s health doctor called an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. Obstetrics is a branch of medicine that deals with the care of women before getting pregnant, throughout their pregnancy, their unborn baby, labor and delivery and after they give birth. Gynecology is another branch of medicine that deals with any ailment specific to girls and women concerning the reproductive organs; uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries and vagina.

meet dr. mia e. LAYNE
Dr. Mia E. Layne, the Owner and Medical Director of Contemporary OB/GYN Chicago, is a board certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist from the Southside of Chicago. Dr. Layne has established herself as an empathetic physician with superb bedside manner, extensive medical knowledge and exceptional surgical skills.
Dr. Layne obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Layne has developed an extensive network through her involvement in numerous civic, professional and social organizations that allows her to be in tune with the pulse of her medical specialty and the Chicagoland community. Dr. Layne is a Diplomate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is also a member of multiple medical societies, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist, the American Medical Association, and the National Medical Association.
Dr. Layne is on staff at Northwestern Prentice Women’s Hospital and also performs minor gynecology surgeries at the 900 N. Michigan Surgical Center. She looks forward to providing a women's wellness oasis to the women of the Chicagoland area and beyond.
